Welcome to the [community profile] tri_me community! To get the ball rolling, we'd love for you to post an introduction, telling everyone a little bit about yourself and what you'd like to get out of the community. Are you a beginner? An experienced triathlete? Are you training for a race now? Have pictures or race stories from a recent event to share?

Hello everybody. I'm very much a beginner. So far I've only toyed with the idea of doing triathlon, and I've only recently started running and swimming again.

[personal profile] temves bike posts have me curious, though, and for the first time in years I've wanted a bike again.

What I'd like to get out of the community: motivation. I need all the help I can get to keep to my training schedule.

Melusina and Ell are my heroes.I'm just sayin'.

I have never competed in a tri, and have only been back at running in races since 2009 (after a 30 year hiatus between high school team and mid-life crisis). I do not know if I could handle the swimming portion of a tri, but I'm starting to screw up my courage to train for that (still in the thinking stage). I love to bike, but do not have a tri-worthy cycle - my bike is a beachsider beast of epic proportions, and not at all suited to racing.

In short, I'm too much of a beginner to even be called a newbie! But I am interested in making progress, because if you aren't moving forward, you're not growing, and if you're not growing, you might as well not be alive.

Bring me that horizon.

gnomad: Orange stick figures doing triathlon (Triathlon)
From: [personal profile] gnomad
Wheee! Well, I'm definitely a newbie. This is my first year doing triathlons. I've been training for about 10 months now and have done one sprint triathlon. I've got my first Oly distance race coming up in a mere 17 days (*hides*), for which I feel super unprepared.

My best sport is swimming (though I'm still considered middling), followed by biking, and then running. I'm sort of horrid at the running bit, but I plod along slowly and think I'm improving...

I think my Oly race is the last race of my season (maybe Giant Acorn Sprint in October? Dunno yet), and I'm already looking forward to planning out my 2011 season. Yay tri!

From: [personal profile] gnomad
Oh, yeah, I'm definitely back of the pack in all the sports. My running pace is like a pathetic 14:00 min/mile. After the sprint, I picked up a group from my local triathlon club who were training for the Oly distance and am using their coaches and training plans. I briefly tried to put together my own training plan, but got bogged down at the complexity of it all. I had about 12 weeks between the Sprint and Olympic race so it's all about building rather than the slow base stuff. However, it didn't feel like as much of a jump to go from the sprint program to the olympic since the number of days training were the same (6 days a week).

These past two weeks are my final peak weeks before I start tapering and I've been dead tired. They've been 9-10 hour weeks and I go into the long weekend workouts dragging a bit. I'll be happy to taper and get some rest next week.

I'm so glad to see this comm! I've just gotten interested in triathlons in the last few months, partly from seeing some of you in the check-in posts at [community profile] runners.

I started running about two years ago, swimming two months ago, and went back to using my bike two weeks ago after five years without it. I'm signed up for a swimming class that starts in two weeks. I'd like to do a triathlon sometime next (Northern Hemisphere) summer. Looking forward to learning more.

Utter newbie here, though now I've done my first tri, I feel a little more comfortable talking about me and triathlon in the same sentence...

By way of introduction, have a funny picture:

Starter number written on my hand with red Sharpie (pixellated to protect my RL name, although those who know me personally will find that the number actually contains part of my real name ;) and a 50-tooth love bite from my bike. What can I say - she's my first bike without a chain guard, and she impresses that fact upon me frequently!
